Not sure about the various other hand control modules but this one comes preset with AVC on at 3. Simple to turn off but if y'all are running any of these BT hand controls u might double check that AVC is off.

Yes sir. Been a week or two. Killer SQ!!! Got it all rain proofed and ready to road test this biatch. Busy damn summer thus far so not much time in the saddle. Time will tell.
I actually liked a bunch of the functionality the Boom had so I probably won't be the guy totally slobbering over the aftermarket HU thang other than the SQ.

The main thing at this point brother is to really dive in and research the functions that are important to you. How many USBs, Flac music, iPod compatible, etc. once u get that dialed in and if it not associated with the commonly used Sony 5000 then u might consider getting the BT1014x and the specific double din that meets ur needs. I think it's $199 before discounts and if u find the absolute perfect double din for fairly cheap u might be in a much better place for possibly cheaper with rain shield already included. The BT1014X really does look damn simple to install thus it really might be time that folks invest a lil extra energy into the process and get the perfect HU for their needs. No better than the BT rain shield however forum member Radio does make a very damn nice alternative.
My deal was the iPod. I leave that biotch plugged in at all times and when I want the CarPlay for Nav I simply plug the phone in and roll as the music files on phone & iPod are synced. Flac is cool too. Plus Pandora and all the other sources are supported on the phone. Not to mention I have always been a huge fan of the Alpine SQ even though Sony is damn good too. U might even want to forgo the CarPlay interface and find a unit with a built in Nav database like Garmin. It's sometimes the simple shix that can make a difference, plus u might even be able to save some good coin installing the HU connections to the BT harness.
Point being, the Sony 5000 is damn nice but the other options out there are endless with these BT hand control harnesses & mounting kit w rain shield.

Did you use the BT1014x? And this rain shield I was looking for that
and didnt see it. Is it just the shield like Radio makes or something more involved? I am looking
to see if there are other alternatives for HUs as well. Wondering why arent there others out there that
would work in this setting.

I did use it but paid the man, BT Mike, to do all the wiring so it showed up ready to just plug in.
The rain cover on the BT faceplate was designed with a lip across the top of it so the rain shield tucks up into it thus it was designed around a rain shield vs the Sony 5000s I have seen the cover is not an integral part of the design.
It might be worth a quick call to Donna to verify the compatibility of the module & install kit and the endless HUs available for cages. She might even have a list she can send u. I have not done any research on it as I just made one call to BT, but after seeing how straight forward this thing looked I figured I would toss the idea out there to open up HU options for others. The instal instructions really are cave man proof and Im sure BT will expand on potential HU hurdles that might exist.
I'm kind of wishing I went with the onboard Nav cause when I ride I really don't want anything to do with all the shix that flys across my phone every 2 mins like text, emails & calls. Do not disturb works, but tossing my phone in the bag for a day or two worked damn good as well. On the flip side, Waves & the other real time Nav apps are pretty damn nice too but I suggest taking the time to get the HU that fits ur style if possible.

Like you, I miss some of the features the boom has too but the SQ makes up for it.
