On those Hertz they list the cones as "water repellent". Do y'all treat them before using them in the lowers or just go as is?
The plastic or composite type cones i would not worry about treating them. The paper cones, i would definetly treat them with a few coats. I have seen some Prv with what appear to to be Thompson water sealant. They shine like a vivid black paint job, that is a little over kill and has to affect the sound with the extra weight of the coating.
Those 6mr500s are LOUD in the lowers, but they arent a warm speaker so if you dont have something else to compliment the lower range, I dont think youll like them. I have them in my lowers and Im feeding them 200w each and they love it and are loud as ****, but I have 6.5 yellow baskets in my dash and 8 yellow baskets in my tour pack. If I knock the 8s out and just play the front stage, they still sound ok but too damn bright and very fatiguing to your ears on a long trip without the 8s to balance them out.
Gunslinger, send me a pic of the lid that is messed up. I'm sure I can fix it, I fix Harley parts frequently for local Indy's and a local HD dealer..
Here is my hack job. The secondary problem is that the DD VOs don't sit quite right because of the poor job I did. Someone made a thread earlier about the biggest audio mistake...this is mine. I should have put a strong front stage together first while I learned more about the characteristics of those bag speakers. Bottom line, 200 watts each, and I can't hear them at speed.
I think once I get these lowers in, I'll get some of the new AdvanBlack 8" lids and fill them with forward facing 2ohm subs. If I'm not going to hear them at highway speeds, at least I can have some low end at low speed or when I'm in the middle of parking lot pimping.
I think I know where there's a set of SVs for sale. I just sent him a message and we will see if he still has them. I know he bought them right and would pass on the deal to the next guy.
I have a set of sv165 I would part with if someone is interested. I just need spacers for my next speakers but that's a quick fix. Hit me up if you are interested
