So I bought the new Sony mex-m100bt, now the deck it self is nice and powerful. But my question is why can Sony decks carve phones from the USB port? I’ve always had alpine and now I’m wishing I would of went that route. Alpine let’s you charge your phone or use it to charge other things. Why can’t somehow step up and do this

 

My Sony charged my phone from the USB port. Actually did a better job of charging the phone than the Alpine I'm currently running.

 

According to the Sony website it states that the MEX M100BT is capable of USB Playback and Smartphone Charging.
I also have the same head unit but never attempted to charge my iPhone with it.
If Yours isn't charging Your Smart Phone I would contact the vendor You bought it from and inquire about a replacement as it's possible you have a faulty unit.

I will keep ya posted. Everything else works good. Someone said there is a setting so I’ll have to look in the owners manual when I get home tonight

 

It is possible it is your cord. I had a cord that would charge but not play music.

 

That's a very good point IArider1.
Some cords are made for data transfer and charging purposes while others are made just for data transfer or just for charging purposes.
Whatever Smartphone You have You should use the charging cable that came with it to charge the device with a USB port.
Or it could just be that the charging cable you are using is defective.

I have the MEX-70BT and if I remember right it charges the phone from the "USB2" Port which is the one on the cord that comes out of the back of the deck. I think the one on the face of the deck is for playback.

I have used that one before and it charged my phone. I haven't tried the one in the face plate.

Check your owner's manual and see if that's the case. I'll check mine tomorrow and get back to you.

 

Paul, the Sony MEX M100BT does not have a rear USB Cable.
The only USB Port is in the front of the Head Unit.
The cable in the rear is for the microphone.

Update guys, it was the cord, I had two cheap cords that for some reason will charge from outlet but not deck. Grabbed my factory cord and it chargers. So time for better cord. Thanks for all the info and help
