I guess I should have used different wording... water resistant not waterproof. I understand submerging amps or any electronics for that matter wont be good on them and more than likely will die after the first time. I wouldnt be all that worried with the amp being mounted inside the fairing getting too wet from rain. In my area humidity is what I would be more worried about.
As as long as it is marine certified I wouldnt think a little rain would hurt it at all unless it is sitting outside in a down pour and unprotected, the amp. In a saddlebag or inside fairing I wouldnt see a issue with rain even if a downpour.
Back when I rode sxs and four wheelers at the mud parks it was pretty common to submerge a amp or speakers for a brief second and they usually lasted a while. IMO the JL marine amps were the best as far as holding up to weather/water splashes
I live near Houston and is about as humid as it gets here. My friends never have problems with amps.
But if you are concerned you may want to check this amp out and ask others about what they think about it. I have no experience with it. I was on the phone with Metra about some speaker pods and they told me about this amp. They said that the circuit boards were dipped in some kind of silicone type of protection. So it is treated inside and out for water resistance. Once again I know nothing about this amp so do your research if interested. At the time I was looking into options for mounting a amp under my tour pack.
Well as a REAL test, came out of the gym monday evening and the bottom dropped out! Hardest rain I've seen this year I think. I caught a ride home then got a ride back up 2 hours later to get my bike.
Opened my lids and they were completely full of water. Left the volume turned down during the short 5 mile ride home, then turned it up just a little in the garage and everything seemed fine. They've worked fine since then! But I did order the mellotone and will be using that once I replace my rfs.
Isnt the woofer in the rf speaker kits plastic? I wouldnt worry about water with those. The Mmats water proofing works great. Had to run 100 miles through rain to get up to sturgis and jammed out the whole time. Hell got my bike washed up there and got some water in there, opened the lids a bit and then just cranked the volume to blow the rest of the water out.
