I ran Cycle Sounds lids with Hertz HCX690's for 5+ years. Travelled quite a bit with the bags packed to the point I had to push down on the lid to get them to latch. Magnets were definitely touching stuff in the bag (usually packed in drop-in soft luggage. Never an issue with heat etc. The HCX did not have a paper cone and they got wet more than once. I always meant to spray them with camp dry, but never got around to it. They still sound good today according to the new owner of the bike.

Keep in mind there are two models of Polk marine speakers. It is the MM692s that get hot. The MM691s have a dedicated crossover. I am running the 691s and have the crossover mounted under the lid flap with velcro and have had no heating problems with my Hogtunes lids. I have heard from some folks lately that the new Hogtunes Rushmore lids ain't so great though.
