Default Guys with saddlebag speaker lids

Hey all. Just curious about you guys that have speaker lids and tour. I ride a lot and my bags are usually pretty full especially when I bring the little lady. Do you guys have any problems with the speakers blowing or melting things?
I'm on the fence about getting the Rockford fosgate saddlebag kit and using some Hertz 6x9s I have laying around. Not really concerned about the cvo speakers but I'm more interested in guys who've added lids. I know the factory lids probably dont generate much heat with those tiny magnets.
Just any comments are welcome. I'm not even sure they're worth the trouble.

I have the Fosgate kit, and so far so good. The newer setup has a cage that goes over the magnet to prevent it from melting anything. I doubt it would fit over the hertz, however.

Cool. Do you pack your bags? I have those drop in luggage bags that might make it a little easier to keep them off the speakers. How are those RF 6x9s? I've read some have issues and some don't. I run Hertz 6.5 SVs with tweeters up front, and although they are super loud, no real bass. Not looking for show quality bass and I know you lose bass on the freeways but around town it might be nice.

I also run the RF lid kit and have mmats 690cx in there now. I have had a bunch of different speakers in those lids. my kit is the older kit with no speaker covers. I can tell you it is hard to beat that kit for fit and quality if adding 6x9 lids. All wiring and no paint requirements make it a good investment for $400. Also the speakers that come with it are water proof and don't sound bad at all if not pushed too hard. Depending on what hertz 6x9's you have, they will do you justice, for the most part are bullet proof and fit perfect in the lids.

Sweet. Thanks for the info. I have hertz hi energy 300 watts. They should be good to go. I will probably just run the fosgates until something happens or if they sound horrible with my amp (biketronics bt4180). Any issues with bags being packed while touring?

The only issue I ever had was running polk mm series 6x9's as they got hot and melted the capacitors running of a tm400 amp. No problems with any other speakers.

I do a good amount of commuting with the bike. Since I can't wear jeans and t-shirt at work (jerks) I pack one of those slanted duffle bags with my work clothes and lunch box goes on the other side. I've had the kit maybe a month now, so far no issues. I'd say they sound good for what they are. Gypse, thanks for the info on the Polk's. I was just looking at those last night thinking might be a good alternative if I blow these, but I had the polk 6.5's before and had quickly let the smoke out, so not that surprised. I am really happy with my Hertz in the faring, and would really like to do hertz 6x9's when the time comes, but I am worried about them getting wet and what that will happen to the speakers long term. I don't worry about it so much with the fairing speakers since they are more sheltered.

A couple of coats of camp dry on the hertz and your good to go. Just reapply every so often if they get wet.

I swapped out the RK 6x9s a couple weeks ago for the mmats 690cx. While the mmats are much larger and don't fit in the RF speaker cages, they sound great. I did lose a small amount of space.....I usually ride everyday to work and on gym days i have the right bag packed full with a duffel bag for my gym clothes/shoes, it doesn't seem to be an issue. I try to not let anything cram up against the magnet.
