well I could never 'fix' this on mine, so what I did was to change its power wire to be on the ACC line - this way it gets 'reset' all the time, like when you turn the bike off, and even while riding if necessary by cycling the acc switch (it's not often required).
most irritating is that this issue seems to disappear, and then comes back with software updates on the iphone... sigh. there's even a new one now were it connects and 'hangs', displaying 'device connected updating text'
I will try that as well. I contacted Metra Tech Support and was told they have no repair shop and I should contact who I purchased it from. I will also look up where I bought it but suspect I will be told something similar. Looked up the price and it's getting close to the price of some radios with BT. May end up going that route. If I could control my Aux with the handle bars I would just use it.
