The amp is 198x4=792
Square root is 28.14
my questions is so thats what i set the amp to with the multimeter?
This is my system
2020 Road Glide special
Harley GTS head unit with
Rockford fosgate flash
Front speakers
Mmats pa601cx
Rear speakers
Hertz spl show sx690 neo
All 4ohm
Thanks
Isn't the voltage set by the amps watts or is it by the rms of the speaker?
with my stinger/mmats I had it set by the 125 watts of the stinger which was 22.36.
You set your volts for the speakers...not the amp per channel wattage.
Find your target watts you want to push to your speakers, set hu volume at 3/4, your new high max, play 1000khz test tone with speakers not connected to amp and amp gains turned all down. Connect your multimeter to amp channels, then slowly turn dial up till you reach your target volts.

When you're trying to set a target value for your gains, it should be a target that the speaker can handle, not how much the amp can produce.

Few questions - looking to better understand approach to optimizing a system:
1. The video discusses and demonstrates setting the amplifier gain to optimize amplifier performance & minimize or eliminate clipping and distortion in the signal. Makes no mention of speaker specifications / limitations. Would you go above the optimal amplifier gain setting to align to the speaker target value or would you only use the speaker target value setting if it was below the optimal amplifier gain setting?
2. I have a DSR-1 installed w/ 2-channel input from the HU splitting to 6 outputs to two SD800.4 amplifiers. The video advises balancing volume between speakers by backing-down one or more gains of the louder amps. If the amplifier gains are set to optimal settings (based on #1 above) do I use the DSR1 trim-levels to balance volumes or is there more to it?
Hmm, I've always just set the gains by ear at 3/4, but I watched this video and was surprised to hear them say at the 3:30 mark to set the meter to AC. I thought all automotive amps output DC? I need more coffee I think.
