I just installed 4X of the GZCF 65 SPLs. I have them powered by a SD 1200.2 evox.
They sound clear but lack any kind of bass. Guitars sound hollow or concert hall type.
My speaker pods are fully enclosed. Any holes were sealed.
I have the 8xII DSP by Ground Zero as well.
Is this just a function of the speakers themselves only being 6.5 inches? They are very mid heavy and sound great for country music, but Led Zepplin sounds hollow and the guitar is missing depth.
I had this installed by a professional and they set the DSP to be as flat as possible.
Would filling the speaker pods or using some stick on sound deadening on the speaker pods reduce that sound? Trying to get more depth and base out of this and I know we are limited by the speaker size at this point..
If Led Zeppelin sounds hollow you may just be hearing one channel. I know its not likely but its something to check. Zeppelin will have a lot more guitar in one than the other.
I had trusted my installer to set things up correctly and while he did install the components there were things I wanted to change.
First, he didnt cut the holes to make the magnet fit. He cut the round hole bigger and got the speaker installed but there was an air gap on the side which he did not seal. I took some dynamat and fixed both speaker pods.
Second he had the DSP crossed over at 100hz. I dropped that to 65
I further altered some of the settings and reduced the midrange significantly. When looking at the DSP, the very middle one was as high as the rest. I dropped it below flat and took out the echo/hollow sound.
These changes alone took away the hotel hallway sound I was getting. Now Zepplin, Megadeth, Metallica all sound like they should.
Setup is this.
Harley GTS head unit
Ground Zero 8xII DSP
Sound digital 1200.2 Evox 4 ohm version. Running 4 of the GZ 6.5's puts it at a 2 ohm load and 300 watts per speaker.
4X GZCF 65SPL speakers.
She sounds much better sitting still. I know I will lose some base and such when riding so I may adjust the EQ further but for now I am happy finally.

Who did your install? Never take a.bike to a car audio place. That usually doesn't end well. Bike audio and car audio are worlds difference. What works in car audio usually won't work in a bike.
please explain, I'd love to see that, I don't even know how that's possible...
he enlarged the mounting hole and ground some of the fins inside. It only allowed for 2 screws to hold the speaker in place. I am thinking of sourcing some new speaker pods and doing it myself but they are mounted upside down and moved inward about half of an inch.
