having just got a set of these off eBay, I'm trying to do the homework on what's needed to fit in my 2017 FLHXS Batwing...
cshocker in another thread already clarified I don't need adaptors, as I already have 6.5" OEM speakers (THANKS AGAIN didn't realise that!)
First thing I notice is the grilles in the kit appear to be external screw...surface mount surrounds, not the three ear reverse-side mount....so how did others who have fitted T1650 in their fairings cover theirs?
do you keep the H-D OEM plain grilles? and would they be deep enough for the tweeters?
Here are the installation instructions for those new RF Boom! fairing speakers.
BlackPear#1, you should check with the Dealer to see if It's possible to get the new RF grills and grill retainers separately from the kit (see Table 2 in the linked instructions for P/Ns). The only thing is you might need to grind off the little alignment pin on the speaker pod (see Figure 3) if your speaker doesn't have the hole for it.
cheers to everyone who contributed to the info on this mod.
All buttoned up behind my new RF grills. They look so much better than stock IMHO
pair of Rockford Fosgate T1650.... sound great compared to the OEM speakers. The Sony drives them well over 4ohms, with its built in amp (not sure my neighbours would agree!)

Should be able to hear it at highway speeds now!
The amp from that HU isnt enough to drive a set of horms
much less speakers.

your opinion duly noted but seeing as I havent got the volume half of its previous setting, it appears to be driving these new speakers just fine IMHO
