Default How does the CB work?

Just wondering if anyone out there uses the CB option in their bike with the 14 and up Boom audio.
I am trying to figure things out so I know what hardware to buy for my 2014 Limited.

My friend has a 2001 Ultra classic with a wired mic and the stock stereo for that year. He has figured out that he can press the PTT button once and then he can key his handheld mic to talk. - We havent tested receiving on his yet.

I was looking at a wired boom mic through the 7 pin din port on the console. I am hoping that I can either just press the PTT once and talk or I can hold the PTT and talk - either way I dont want the mic to be accepting voice commands or transmitting to the CB while Im riding unless I press a button. I also want to be able to listen to my media and if my friend wants to reach me, have it just mute or dim the radio audio and come thru the speakers.

Is this how it works? I have no idea - any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

The CB only transmits when you press the “PTT” button. I had it installed on my ‘17, and after they took it away, they left the wiring.

Did you try looking through your owner's manual? There should be a section in it explaining how the CB works.

RagmanZL- I must admit I am a litle confused - perhaps I am misreading your post.

I had a 2014 Limited and if I recall, the CB option was standard. If you purchased the bike new, you should have received a wired headset. If you got it used, you can check here and buy the headset for probably $50 or so (for sale sire here).

All you need do it plug that headset into your console, use the PTT switch and you will be good to go.

Correct. The CB was included as standard equipment on Limited's (my previous 2012 Ultra Classic had it as well) up until a couple of years ago when HD started to "chisel" away at standard equipment like CB, heel shifter, extra fob, etc.
As cycle states...you should just have to plug in the wired headset, push PTT and you're good to go. Only other thing is you may need to go into the COMM settings to correctly route (headset or speakers) the sound and set up headset volumes.
It will do exactly what you are wanting. Music plays till you push PTT (and hold), or one of your riding buddys is transmitting to you. Once conversation is over, music returns.

I liked the CB enough and have a couple of groups I ride with that use it, that I added it to my 2020 RGL. As mentioned, HD no longer includes the CB module, switch control & antenna...but at least all the wiring is still there to make hook-up easy.

this is exactly the info I am looking for. I am picking up a freedom mic extended with a clip for my riding jacket. I was wondering if I had to hold the ptt button while I talked and if the music would turn off when transmitting or receiving and if it would resume. You answered my question. Thank u

The CB is the ONLY reason I do not upgrade my head unit. Being a road captain for the local HOG chapter, we use the CB as communication and I do not want to run with another device mounted to my handle bars. I also enjoy the fact that my radio mutes the tunes when communication happens either in or out then resumes. I enjoy being a road captain with a team that trains hard and plays hard during rides. Its the most fun I have out on my bike!

Not sure I understand your comment Sir: What does the head unit have to do with the CB?

Are you referring to having to buy a new CB if you upgraded? Others have said you can use the same unit

Lots of guys are pulling out their stock head units and replacing with an aftermarket unit (Sony is a favourite) for various reasons...sound quality, low level preamp outputs, quicker response, CarPlay, Nav options, etc.
Once you go this route, the CB is rendered unusable. CB is integrated into only the stock HD head units...either GT or GTS versions (and older 2013 & down Harmon Kardon units).
This is the reason I'll stick with my stock GTS head unit...oh and it's also totally rainproof...aftermarket not so much.

Lefty33 - thanks. I was wondering if he was talking about going with the upgraded GTS - then he could use the CB
