It appears some have no idea what the WHIM is and how it works. Before you spend you money on stuff like this make sure you. I have had the same WHIM on 2 bikes from 2017 when the first came out. They work great for what they are designed to do.
When you decide to mix Headsets that are not 100% compatible you will have issues. Yes you can do it. But you can not and will not get full function.
Even my old Q3 cadro will pair and work if I want but nothing like the Sena ones designed for the HD system.
Next time you are going to spend that kind of money. 1. Don't listen to a dealership. 2. find someone that has the system and see how and why it works.
The original problem was that I could not get audio through the earpiece on my headset. My headset was at version 3.1. Got visit from factory guy that brought a working headset that worked fine. His firmware version was 2.1. Factory guy took my headset and one from dealer inventory back with him. Got a text message from him about 6 weeks later and there was a new firmware version 3.2 that fixed my problem but the volume was poor. About 6 weeks ago an update was available. Now the current version is 3.3. Lots of volume and everything works fine.
2020 RGL, HD 30k dual pack w/firmware 3.3 and whim with the latest software. We could never get the 30k units to work. We either had intercom or music, never both and sometimes nothing. We reset the 30ks constantly, went to the dealer multiple times, called HD, tried to call Sena nobody and, I mean, NOBODY, knew how these worked nor why they didnt work.
I became an expert in the HD Bluetooth Device Manager software trying every setting available, but nothing worked. I dont know if we had bad 30k units or if the firmware in the Whim was the problem. We removed everything, unflashed the bike and now using cords again.
But, I have a short memory as here I am researching the 50s units to see if maybe theyre better and worth a try.
These things MUST work somehow . There are plenty of people out there riding 2Up listening to music and chatting away on the intercom as if they were using the DIN plugs

I can understand your frustration. What I've learned is to go back to default settings. I turn off the FM Radio. I also turn down intercom on the boom to it's lowest setting to disable Vox. We initiate intercom conversations via the push to talk option using the MC controls or the headset itself. Concerning the 50s, my buddy has the Sena version and he was having the same issues as you until he went back to default settings and is also using intercom the way I am.
That’s good intel Chief; however, respectfully, using the PTT button w/no or very low VOX isn’t how the system is designed to work. What happens when there isn’t a 2nd passenger on board? Does the system scream at MAX VOLUME “INTERCOM FAILED, TRY AGAIN LATER”?
What you're talking about seems to happen when the default settings are adjusted. All of those type problems disappear when using default settings. As for using push to talk without a passenger, no problems that i've seen. Concerning intercom in general, my experience, any amount of vox is too much for the mic to handle with wind at speeds above 40ish.
Have not been on here in a long time. Yes they fixed the problem firmware 3.3 did it. But get a cardo.. much better. No problem connecting with other riders.

I have a '21 CVO UL and use two Sena 50s Harley branded units for our 2-up riding... they work more or less meh. I'd rather use Cardo as everyone else that I know does... so, obviously, I cannot communicate with them. Do you have the Boom GTS and if so, with your Cardo, have you been able to figure out a reasonable workaround to utilize CarPlay?

Just checking - your Sena 50s Harley should work OK with Carplay. Ss far as connecting with Cardo, the folks with the Cardo system can use mesh to link you in.
There is a work around, a plug, but this does not work with the CVO. You can try the new dongle from J&M - that worked with my Cardo, In case you have a CB, you will not be able to connect - but, it seems that all else works well.
