WIM and Wireless Headset Issues.
I broke down and purchased one Harley heaset (30K) to give it a try. The new headset pairs and reconnects flawlessly. Only problem is I get no bike audio through the earpiece. Earpiece talks to me during power up and configuration changes and I can tune to FM station and hear fine. I can pair headset to phone and the sound quality is excellent. Any audio that originates from the bike does not come through the earpiece. (yes I have the audio redirected).
Since the WIM comes as standard on a CVO I visited several dealers and because of my good looks, easy going demeanor ( when that did not work I tried wining) I was able to try to see if I could get my headset working on some floor bikes. Headset failed on these test bikes as good as it failed on mine. I did find one dealer that had a headset in inventory and was able to try that headset on my bike and it did not work either. (hmmmm).
All this time I had an incident opened with Harley and did receive several phone calls and went over several configuration setting and nothing we did improved the situation. Several times I had to fend off the claim it must be a problem with my installation. I countered such a claim with it works with my after market, cheap headset.
Anyway because of my superior troubleshooting skills (retired IBM programmer) and intellect I warranted a visit from the factory guy. I met him at the dealer and he brought his own headset. His worked fine on my bike and mine failed to work on his. (at last progress). We got a new headset out of dealer inventory and it failed in the same way as mine had. I told the factory guy that I believed that Harley had a comparability issue that they did not know about as was sure they would fix it. The factory guy took my headset and the one from dealer inventory back to the ranch. They agreed to replace my headset and again because of my good looks and easy going personality agreed to include a second unit as compensation for all the aggravation and effort I put in trying to troubleshoot the problem. Picked up my new toys this week and could not wait to try them out. I told the service manager (who I had become quite friendly with ) that I give him long odds that one or both of the replacement headset would not work. Should have taken that bet. I got home and my new, direct from the factory, units failed in the same way as my original headset and the one that was pulled out of dealer inventory.
I did have the forethought to get the factory guys phone number and left him a message and advised him that we now had four (4) units all exhibiting the same problem. I got a text a little later indicating that they were going to have a meeting about my bad luck and that is where we are at this moment in time.
I bought the 2020 FLHTKSE. It came with a WHIM, 30K Harley-Davidson SENA, and it is less than satisfactory performance.
A buddy asked me which one to buy - I said the 30K Harley-Davidson one. He did. Our communications are NOT clear and I can not audio Multitask. Another friend also has the HD WHIM & 30K. Same story. Went with my wife for a ride, each different motorcycles, she has the 20S. Communication clarity diminishes over time, requiring a power-down reset on one, or both units... I can't initiate or close intercom, only she can, which I'm sure doen't bother her...
--Funny thing - I had a 2017 FLHXSE, considered the GTS to replace the GT. It didn't come with a WHIM... According to HD, the WHIM isn't cross-compatible, however, @Circa58 indicated their older WHIM worked with both the GT and GTS... I don't even use CarPlay much anyhow. I was trying to update everything to ensure a firmware wasn't to blame, GTS, WHIM, and 30K. All that was in _need_ of an update was the Dealer Database... ha ha. My T-shirt drawer is full thanks...
All this **** is buggy.
