Default Speaker Upgrade 2017 Road Glide

Sorry if this is a beaten subject here. Tried searching to no avail.
I’m looking to upgrade the stock fairing speakers in my 2017 FLTRU. Don’t really want/need to do an amp. Im not looking for volume, just a better sounding speaker for cruising around town. I noticed there’s this weird compression that happens when I try to add any eq to a mix. Don’t know if that’s coming from the head unit or speakers are just crapping out. Highway speeds, I just wear my headset.

Is there any such animal? Or is it even worth doing? I’m knowledgeable in sound design (Im a bass guitarist and work for a bass amp company) so I’m pretty knowledgeable about freq response, gain structure, impedance and power ratings, but not so much when it comes to car/bike audio.

thanks in advance

I think I found my own answer here… seem like everyone says there’s no sense in replacing speakers without doing an amp. One thread even suggested doing the amp first (if you’re on a budget) and THEN ado the speakers later.

I'm not sure id do an amp with stock speakers. Unless you're careful, you might blow them. They wont handle much more wattage.

What kind of budget are you working with?

Haven’t really given much thought about budget. I know I don’t wanna spend a lot of bread for the amount of time I DO listen to the stereo on the bike. Looks like for speakers, an amp and everything needed, I’d be just under a grand.
I changed out the stock speakers on my 05 EGC and it seemed like that was a worthwhile investment. I think I only spent a couple hundred bucks on the upgraded H-D speakers back then.
I don’t know… maybe I’m just better off using my headset when I do wanna listen to stuff loud and clean.
