Hello, I have a 2019 Road Glide Special, I'm looking for an audio upgrade. When I'm at highway speeds, the stock system just sounds like a bunch of noise. Don't know if it's my old ears, or the system.
I want to replace the fairing speakers, add an amp, and possibly add speakers to my lowers. I won't be adding lid speakers. Looking for better sound at 70mph.
I'll be doing the install myself, and have a budget of $1500 - 2k.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Biketronics has an amp and speaker upgrade package that would fit in your budget.
I upgraded my 2015 rgs with this kit, installed myself and I recommend it. Sounds so much
better than stock.
You will need the HU flash. Fairing GZCF6.5SPL, Lowers Mmats PA601.4cx Amp SD1200.4 2ohm. Run the Gz's bridged parallel on channel 1 & channels 2. Mmats on channels 3 & 4 straight up. This will be loud and clear @ 100 MPH.
Thanks for the info! Re: the Mmats, would I be better with the Mmats coax? still trying to learn how this works. Also, what flash would I need for the HU?
Thanks,
Steve
Keep in mind the above advice will be mono, not stereo. A 1200.4 4 ohm will give you 221w x 4 hooked up normal stereo. That would be fine for the GZs and Mmats (shoot I am getting by with 150 watts on those speakers). Just wanted to throw that out there in case the OP cares.
Most of the music I listen to takes heavy advantage of stereo. I know what I am supposed to hear from each side and I don't want to do away with that functionality just for a few extra watts.
Thanks, What would the difference (implications) be if I used a SD 1200.4 4 ohm vs the 2 ohm amp?
If you are new to the bike audio world, I was stay away from SD 1200's right now. They have a notoriously high failure rate (ask me how I know). Also, there seems to be a lot of GZ coax that are sub-par as well (again, ask me how I know).
The Euphoria EX4 is a great 4 channel amp at 200wx4.
Another good setup is a SD 800.4 PS with 2 pairs of mmats pa601cx's
Some other good 6.5's are: Euphoria Expert coax (EX6NCX), DB Drive moto CD's, Quantum coax, DD audio coax, cicada horn and coax
Some other amps (depending on speaker choice) are: mmats 4100, Stinger 700, Massive TX48, Euphoria Expert EX1K

Does the EX4 fit in a '21 RG fairing without modifications? I was leaning towards a SD amp until the numerous posts of failures.

I'm running the DB Drive WDX6MOTO-CD in my fairing powered by a SD 400.4 and they are very efficient speakers. They sounded kinda harsh on my 400.2 the extra power I'm feeding them now brought the mid range to life and now they sound a lot warmer. From what I've read on a FB post from Garage Baggers they are louder than the GZ Yellow baskets but don't play as low.
