Default Sounddz System

I'm not normally one to bash, but for what they get for these systems, they could at least make it sound good. I have a customers bike in the shop right now, 2 in the fairing, lowers, two 6x9's in each bag, one in the lid and one facing the wheel. Not very loud, when you do turn it up, it's shrill. While the install looks great, the sound quality leaves a lot to be desired to me. This is just my opinion, not trying to trash talk anyone or blame anyone. I'm just trying to relay y experience as it comes.

I just pulled the trigger on a new system for my 2014 , it's alot of money for a sound system , granted thats including a used but not cheap GTS head unit so I'm really hoping to be blown away.

I have a buddy who loves his Soundz system. He did not go full-on crazy with their offering, something more mid-tier (for Soundz). 6x9s in the lids and 6.5s in the fairing with an amp. He's happy and it does sound pretty solid.

Truth be told, it was (my wife) hearing his system that pushed me to upgrade my system. I looked at Soundz but went in another direction. I did not want them chopping-up my lids to install their big-honking and heavy speakers in there among other things.

I did not do my original install, but over the last year completely pulled and reinstalled / retuned my ride myself (the OCD in me). Took some time to learn the ropes but I thoroughly enjoyed the process. Not for everyone, though - I get it.

To each his own.

I'll chime in here... I just had a Soundz Carbon system installed yesterday. 6 Speaker System. (Fairing, Lowers, Lids) I can go into a long story of why I thought that was the right route for me, but I won't bore you. The Dealer I talked to (who came to my garage to do the install) said if I was not 100% satisfied with it, that he'd take the system out, refund my money and put the Boom II stuff back. Well... I'm 95% sure he's going to be putting my Boom II stuff back. I'm not impressed. I did get the new Boom GTX HU installed too and that will stay... but as of right now I'm pretty sure he's getting a call. Is it better then the Boom II stuff.. Yes, it is.. Is it what I paid for it better?? No it is not. As the OP said.. It's loud, but it's more of a annoying loud. Not a nice clean crisp loud. Mind you, this is all sitting in my garage listening playing with it. It's winter here and 15 degrees out. This is my warning to anyone considering this system. Listen to a bike that has it installed first. Something similar to what you are looking at getting. If you can't do that first.... Well proceed at your own risk. Luckily I worked out a deal with the dealer/installer that could tell I was hesitant... that he'd replace and refund me if I wasn't happy. He obviously thought I would be. He said if he swaps my system, I'd be the first one in the hundreds of installs he's done.

I did go with the 5x7's in the lids, but they still had to cut the basked out of the CVO lid to fit that 5x7 speaker. So If I get it taken out, I'll still have that basked cut out. My OCD is going to bother me on this too...!

Listening in a cold garage I am assuming as it's 15 degrees out is not a good test. Also at high volume most system sound terrible in a garage because of acoustics. I would wait for it to warm up and bring it outside and play it there and see how it sounds outdoors and riding. Ice cold speakers don't sound the same at 25 degrees as they will in 80°. Just saying.

That's an easy fix. I would suggest installing a 5x7 to 6x9 adapter (American Hard Bag or V-twin). It'll make it clean plus you can upgrade to 6x9's which are much better than a 5x7.
Here's the V-twin adapter:

I never understood why anyone, car or bike audio would go with a “Kit” each component (speaker, head unit amps crossovers, etc) should be picked separately from the best in class for that component.

In the end the price isnt much different if you shop around and it will sound better.

I would go with your gut! And if you can get your money back, I would in a heartbeat. And you still have some time before spring to get something else put in there that you'll be happy with.

So I'll tell you why I did and not saying my reasoning is right or wrong, but it was just why I choose the kit route. I don't live close to anyone that I know that would do a custom system install...I'm not an audio file guy and don't keep up on it, so I honestly don't even know which components to purchase separately. I had some help with this and could have driven a couple hours away to have someone do the install... but... my wife can't drive for more then 10 minutes without falling asleep. So she can't follow me to where I'd need to drop off my bike, and then go pick it up when it's done. So now I'm bugging family/friend to do that. The Soundz dealer/installer came to my house for no charge and installed the system. The other thing again "for me"... If I'm not an audio guy and I have someone help do the install.. what if said someone is no longer in the area or for whatever reason no longer or willing to help, and I have issues with the system? Who do I go to? With a kit from a dealer like Soundz (just as an example) there was a 3 year warranty and there is a dealer network in the area. I call them, they come fix it.

If you are a audio file guy and want to learn and figure all this out on your own, I 110% agree with you. But... if you are like me and want something better then OEM, but don't keep up on all this and are not comfortable tearing into your audio (especially on a CVO). A plug-n-play kit can be far more appealing. Just my $.02...
