Okay thanks for your observations. If you changed your speakers out when you installed the HDHU. that in itself can make a big improvement in quality and volume. the harley speakers are only about 87 decibel efficient. Looking at RF speakers they are probably 94db efficient. That alone will will increase the volume by a wopping 7db. for the same watt input. Every doubling of an amps wattage results in a 3db gain in volume. So you effectively more than doubled your amp wattage. That is why you noticed an increase in volume output.

I didn't. I changed my speakers out when I switched to the Sony. Anything was going to be an improvement over the over OEM HU and 2ohms
I ran the Sony for 17months in all British weathers and was thoroughly impressed. Daytona 2022 I picked up a HDHU14 and carried it back to jolly ole England and just swapped the HU this time, and immediately noticed the clarity and volume increase over the 7000
Thank you for clarifying. Sounds like the HDHU is the way to go. I updated my speakers a couple years ago to some polk marine units with 93db efficiency, so now I just need to determine if my stock radio is bad or the ecm, bcm has an issue, or both. All our local harley dealers are 6 to 8 weeks out for an appointment. I can read the codes but have no way to determine what parts have failed. Diagnostics are impossible I guess without Harleys tools.
I just made the swap this weekend but I live in NH so a ride report will have to wait for me. Today I am going to see if I can get the Cardo playing through the headphones in my helmet while still displaying on the head unit and be able to use the thumb controls. Standby.
Yes, but you have to connect things in a specific order. The way to do it is to start the bike, wait for your phone to connect with CarPlay to your head unit, then open the Cardo app on your phone and use it to connect to your helmet headset. Now you can play music through your helmets speakers but still control song selection with your handlebar controls.
