Does anyone else have a problem with CarPlay staying in dark mode all the time? I have it set to automatic, but it’s always in dark mode and makes it hard to see in the daytime. It switches to light mode quickly as I switch the bike off. Weird!
stonegroovin raised this valid point in another HU thread, so I thought I'd post it seperate as I have the same issue...
I suffered the exact same with my Sony7000, as well as the Soundstream Reserve HDHU14
I'm using Google maps Android Auto / Settings / DAY/NIGHT MODE FOR MAPS with the setting as Automatic and yet the map displayed is Night, regardless of time of day or ambient light.
manually change to either Day or Night and you get the result you want (thats the temp solution)
by his syntax I suspect he's using Apple Carplay and suffering the same, but I'll let him join the thread for input
Yes, Apple CarPlay will only operate in dark mode on my hdhu.14. However, when I turn the ignition switch off, CarPlay quickly switches to light mode before the screen shuts off. I have CarPlay set to automatic, not dark mode. I have called tech support, no return call as promised. I also emailed volunteer audio with no response.

based on the fact that both of us experience it with the HDHU and that I had it before with the Sony XAV-AX7000, I personally think it's something in the Android Auto/Car Play
I was always going to look into how the setting worked,
either by:
ambient light sensor in our phones,
head unit ambient light sensor
sense wire to the auto lights on the vehicle
time of day setting that the headunit pulls from the device connected to it (eg. sunset to sunrise go dark)
Lets see what others post up with and how it also works in the H-D GTS

The 4 suggested issues is were I would start.
Were is the Phone located?? Is it being stored in the media cubby or in your pocket??
Last weekend my Android was staying in night mode in the middle of a sunny day while in my truck. All I did was was reboot the phone to clear the issue.
I was just doing an update on a headunit on the bench yesterday and had no issues with either Android or Apple products while plugged in to the SS HU.
AS BUBBLE has listed is were I would start on diagnosing.
I keep the phone in a handlebar mount. Im not sure how this head unit determines day vs night. Keeping the auto sensing on or off makes no difference. I assume it senses the headlight being on and sends it into dark mode but I cant confirm that.
If the pre-wired harness is wired incorrectly with the wire from J3 pin orange and white wire to keyed power that will cause the HU to stay in night mode.
If the issue is only with car play/AA maps I would have to say something in the settings is off
It came with the harness from SoundStream so I didnt make any alterations. Unfortunately, their technical support is less than helpful.
The facility making the harness for SS may have miss wired it. It is just a shot in the dark but without removing the tesa tape and physically verifying the connection it is just a guessing game on the issue.
I had just found a miss wired harness from the build company for an audio manufacturer . After I contacted the company they confirmed of the issue When they did a spot check on their current inventory in the warehouse. ALL the harnesses they checked were miss wired. So it maybe very possible that there were some of the SS mis wired.
