OK I have a 2003 Anniversry edition FLHTCUI. Has all stock audio components currently. I will be installing an aftermarket head unit ( Sony DSX-GS80) and speakers. Already have the head unit, installation kit and module to retain handlebar controls. Will also be installing 12awg constant positive wire direct to battery with it's own fuse. Already know the factory wire will not provide enough power. Putting the head unit in is covered.
But I also have a butt load of questions about other aspects of the build.
1. Will a set of Skar Audio SK65MB 6.5" Speakers (3.24" mounting depth) fit in the fairing with the requisite 5.25"-6.5" adapters?
2. Is it possible to put 6.5" speakers in the rear pods? I know they are built for 5.25" speakers but I'm not afraid to do a little cutting. I'd like to use the previously mentioned Skar speakers.
3. Is the stock stator capable of providing enough power for this system? If so will it still be sufficient if I add in an amp?
4, What amp would you recommend to use with this setup?
5. Where can I mount the amp? I don't want to lose any space in bags or tour pack.
6, What gauge are the stock speaker wires?

Yes...Skar speakers will fit in the fairing with the metra adapter. They will also fit in the rear with Vtwin adapters. I actually ran that exact set up last year with a Soundstream PN1000 amp (will fit on top of the radio with some velcro. Stock stator should be ok...I would definitely run 8g power wire.
Thank you very much for responding.
I will look into that amp. I've seen people reference it quite a bit so it must be decent.
Where are the VTwin adapters available?
Will definitely take your advice on wire gauge.

The Sound Stream amp will probably kill your FM. I ran that amp for a couple of years, If FM is important I would look at the Stinger SPX700x4. I have not heard the Skar speakers so I have no comment on them but you will be upgrading for what you have now.
Just wanted to pop back in here and thank everyone for their time and input. The system sounds great to me. Not a lot of bass, but I didn't expect it to thump. But the sound is nice and clear and at 80mph plus it STILL sounds good. I still haven't pushed to to full power yet, and probably never will. About 75% is plenty, it's actually painful that loud. I'm a happy scooter tramp!

FM around here is **** anyway. Will mostly be streaming music via bluetooth.

I had some 4awg wire laying around and used that to provide power for both the stereo and the amp.
