Do I need this Plug n Play harness?
So far I have MMats PA601CX and so far that's it. I'm looking at sounddigital 1200.4 so that I have head room for future speakers if they require more power and also have the addtl 2 channels ready to go which will eventually power tourpack speakers. most likely i'd initially upgrade fairing speakers and move mmats to the tourpack
I know I need power cable, ground cable, fuses and small bits like that. What I don't know about is do I need one of these plug n play harnesses? Garagebagger sells a couple different ones but here's the one i was eyeing - Plug n Play.
if I do buy this harness should I upgrade the RCAs? I only ask bc it doesn't specify what brand they are and I remember way back to car audio days that RCA quality was always a big deal
Also if I don't buy one of these premade harnesses do I need RCAs?
You will need to flash the radio to enable the rear channels if you chose to put speakers in the lids (you mentioned a TP? Haven't seen a ST with a TP yet). You will want to flash the radio anyway if only to flatten the EQ. Alternatively you could use RCA splitters to feed all 4 channels on the amp from the 2 channels the ST has as stock. Another option might be to use an amp that allows 2 channel inputs with 4 channel outputs.
Another option, instead of using a T-harness, would be to take the front speaker outputs from the HU and run them directly to the amp as speaker/high level inputs. You would use a cable like this to do that and then run new speaker wires from the amp to the speakers. This is the way I'd go for a basic setup as I prefer to not use low level/RCA inputs with LOCs when the amp is able to take high/speaker level inputs. Your challenge here will be how to split 2 channel inputs into 4. Again, you could use a different amp or use a T-harness and flash the radio to enable the rear channels.

Yeah I know ST is "performance bagger". Tour pack would be for when wife rides here and there or we go on trip like sturgis or something.
Day to day I ride with solo seat

can you not use left side as channel 1-2 and right as 3-4. And then when you bridge it goes back to a 2 channel?

You are also correct that you could bridge 1/2 and 3/4 for the fronts but what's the advantage there unless you need the power? Just use 1&2 inputs and 1&2 outputs for front speakers and leave channels 3&4 open until you want/need rear channels.
