I really have never had much to say about what does not comes with a new HD. Always figured I could do the work on my own and had no problem picking and choosing different upgrades . But really? I have a 2022 trike and unless I am missing something why the hell cant I plug in my iPhone and get apple carplay? Now I am by no means an Apple fanatic. Android auto works perfectly but not car play? Again I dont usually bitch and moan about HD but for some reason this kinda pisses me off. Now I may be missing something simple and if so I will take this minor rant back and get on with things. But I am not going to spend a dime on another unfit to get this working. Will just use my old android and enjoy the riding season.

You need a mic attached via a wired headset or wireless headset along with a WHIM in order for ACP to function. This is not H-D's doing as they used to support ACP without a mic until Apple made them stop. If you really don't want to use a headset then you could spoof having a mic by using a headset emulator plug. Another option is to have the GTS head unit re-flashed by a shop not using Harley's Digital Technician II tool. These after market flashes allow the use of ACP without a mic. Technoresearch's Centurion or Alaris are a couple of examples.

Hamah provided the corect information.
Since you purchased a new trike, you should have received a new headset. Simply plug that headset in and then plug in your Iphone. No extra cost and all should be working.
And rant withdrawn! Grabbed headset plugged it in a little settings work on the phone works like a champ! Yall talked me off the ledge in this one! Thanks all!

Again, this time it's not Harley's fault.
Totally get it. Apple is notoriously tough to work with. They play by their own set of rules. Thanks!
And just in case, you also have to unlock the phone before plugging it in for CarPlay to work. The phone will prompt you to unlock it, but if it's out of sight you may not see this.

As much as Apple can be a pain in the a$$ at times, on this one I'll only put 50% of blame on them. As I've stated here on the Forum numerous times, the issue here is complying for "safety" purposes. Most States & Provinces have Hands-Free laws...hence the mic requirement. Think of how many times we've cursed the driver with a phone to their ear while driving, not paying attention. I understand that the majority of guys with bikes have no intention of ever "talking"...just want CarPlay on the screen for maps, music, etc. But because Siri (voice commands) are a part of CarPlay and you "might" use that feature, mic required.
Think of it this way...if there wasn't a mic involved or in play, CarPlay would not work in your car or truck either. The mic can be mounted/hid in numerous locations in your vehicles interior so it's "out of sight, out of mind". Problem on a bike is there's really only one place to have the mic...a headset.

I think the mic should be used when riding. It could be distracting reaching for the touchscreen. I understand that many users might not do that but many would. I think insisting on an attached mic is preferable to disabling the touchscreen and only allowing thumb controls while in motion.
The requirement for the mic is not an HD thing. Your car has a hard wired mic. required by Regs.
At first HD system worked with out MIC present. HD was forced to issue an update that changed that.
HD does some stagnate **** sometimes but this one is not on them.
