Wanted to put out a warning that do not buy anything from Volunteer Audio. They say they stand behind what they sell but they dont. I purchased a pre-order HDHU.14si. Ordered In November and finally shipped after the first of the year. With that purchase you were suppose to get a rebate from XM if you purchase a module. When they finally sent the unit, that XM rebate expired. Issue number 1 - its $75 not the end of the world. Finally in June got the bike out of storage put the head unit it. Along with the hertz amp, maestro, etc.. all ordered from Volunteer Audio. Did all the updates that they wanted, etc everything was plug and play like they said. When it comes to the head unit thats where the issue is, all music works great until you switch from radio to blue tooth or apple car play. There is a definitive 10 decibel difference. I called Volunteer audio they ran me through their checks, etc.. everything was fine. Their excuse is where I am at the radio will have a higher broadcast signal I called b/s but went along with everything. Then they said it was my phone.. so I used my work phone. Mind you I have 2 different carriers, 2 different phones, same issue. My dad has an iPhone does the same thing, another friend brings over their android and USB flash drive, same issue. Mind you I just put the exact same setup in my dads Harley that is sitting right next to my bike. His doesnt drop between radio and Bluetooth stays the same. So at this l point its all pointing to the head unit. So in a last ditch effort I swapped head units with the bikes, it now does it on my dads. So we clearly know its the head unit. Also with a decibel meter my dads bike is 10 decibels higher then mine.
I called up volunteer audio went all back through the same checks since you cant ever seem to get the same person youve talked to in the past. The guy on the phone has us go through everything once again. And his conclusion is its the head unit. Never had that issue before, but agreed to send me a complete new unit. Im like perfect, problem solved. Well I pick up the unit from UPS and open the box . Well there is my old head unit with a note that says radio volume is louder you can go into setting and lower the volume of the FM radio but this is normal
So in Volunteer audios mind thank you for wasting all your time, spending $1100 on a head unit from us, but were not going to stand behind what we sell. Plus they wont return it. Since it was opened and installed.
Absolute terrible dealings, I was going to do 2 more bikes. But now I will just buy from Rockford Fosgate or someone else.
So now it works correctly with the settings changed? And you're still mad?
No it doesnt work correctly. Their fix is to turn it down to match the other outputs. Even though the second radio we have doesnt have this issue and is 10 decibels louder.

Maybe the reputable company should stand behind what they sell. 2 systems the same and they have a distinct difference in sound with all the same settings and I swaped them from bike to bike. Dont think its me, pretty sure its the equipment.

Is this a SoundStream unit? Contact the manufacturer? In all reality, matching the outputs and then resetting the amp gain would be acceptable

While your response lacks some eloquence, I think you made your point :>)

The manufacturer told me I had to contact Volunteer Audio. Volunteer Audio Said they would swap it out. I was fine with that. But then they just sent back the same one.
I did that also, but its only at 103 average on decibels. I swapped head units and it up at 116 decibels and clear sound with the other head unit.

Radio signal is usually always louder than Bluetooth. BT is short wave wireless and Radio is electromagnetic. Even stock unit do the same thing. Adjust it if thats what they suggest.
Never understood why someone thats never been in this forum, joins just to complain. Im gonna tell everyone on the HD forum not to buy there, thatll show them. Its not the first person and sure not the last to do it.
