Need sum advice guys on stereo ans speaker replacement on my stock SG. I've only seen 2 clear front runners as far as plug n play goes and between the 2 it's an easy choice but that's possibly because I'm partial to things I been partial to since I used to do stereos in the 90s. AV AND PHOSGATE ARE 2 I SEE. And between those the new AV and the phosgate are same price so I'm leaning towards it. But I'd love sum tips from experience over any ideology I may have. Thank you
I'm not a stereo guy but I replaced a stock system for a guy this past summer on his 08 street glide. I did the AV stereo with a set of hogworks speakers and he's pretty happy with the results. His stereo would just randomly cut off and he wanted to be able to blue tooth his music so unless you add a Bluetooth connector the only other option is a new stereo. I guess like everything HD, anything is better than stock lol...but for the money spent we both felt like it was a good upgrade.

Depends on what you are trying to accomplish? Are we looking for a simple, inexpensive, I can hear it on the Hwy and I am happy. Or are we looking for, hell if I am diving into this I want to go all out and get an incredible system?
You can keep the factory head unit. It may not be the cheapest out there but I can say first hand my upgrade will give you what you want without adding additional speakers to your saddle bags or lower fairings. This set up will enable you to get saddlebag speakers, if you decide to get those. I did some research and there were like 3 or 4 dealers at this year's (2023) Laconia Bike week and I went with Plex Audio. They installed their Rockford Fosgate STAGE 2 KIT which is a high-performance 2-speaker, 800-watt amplified audio system that includes: • (2) 6.5" fairing speakers (these replace your factory speakers in the fairing) • (1) 800W 4-channel amp • (1) amp installation kit
$1,659 Installed. Like I said not the cheapest but not the most expensive. I am not an employee I am one of their customers and I am very pleased and happy with my system. The main reason I went with them is their amp was the most powerful at 800W compared to the other vendors there. Prices from them were either the same or higher and their amps were only 200W or 400W. The amp offered by Plex Audio is capable if you do decide to go with more speakers you will have plenty of power. Good luck and let us know which system and components you decided to go with.
I went with the RF unit and Polk speakers. No amp.
I went this way because I didnt want a full-out crazy setup.
I typically BT from my phone to my helmet, but the HK radio was cutting out when used and I had the bike apart for repairs and paint anyway, so a basic upgrade made sense.
I agree with that system I've been looking at it. I'd like to go amp route just seeing what options others have used and liked so I have a couple options. Thanks for the input it's appreciated.
I put the SoundStream HDHU in my 2005 Road Glided last summer and absolutely love it, sourced from Volunteer. Apple CarPlay is worth the cost. Rode to Sturgis from NY, listened to Sirius and used Waze the entire way with zero issues. Great unit. I have basic Hogtunes front speaker and amp with lid speakers, plug and play. The speakers and amp are not fancy or expensive. The SoundStream is pricy, but dam once the CarPlay boots up, you see where the money was spent. I was also able to drop my SIrius subscription for the bike, I just use the App on my phone which is a tag along form my Jeep subscription, so free on the bike. Give it a look.
I've had my Aquatic AV head unit for 10 years now with no problems.
Sounds great, works great with my phone to Bluetooth music.
Extremely waterproof. I lather up the inner fairing every time I was her and rinse it off with no worries about he radio.
Plus if you don't want to Bluetooth to your phone, you can download music to a USB jump drive and plug it in behind the removable faceplate.
