Audio System for 202 Road Glide Limited
I am an audio novice at best. I can distinguish between crap sound and good sound well enough, but not going to be a judge in any kind of competition. I also have a good understanding of electronics but I really don't want to completely nerd out on this. Doing my research on motorcycle audio it seems there is no other subject in the motorcycle world where the opinions/experiences shared vary widely from these guys put out garbage to best in class.
Whatever the case, a good upgrade seems like it's going to be expensive. I'm a buy once / cry once kind of person. At the prices I'm seeing, saving a couple hundred bucks isn't worth it if you're not terribly happy with the system you got. I don't mind saving money, but I also don't want to cheap out and only find myself spending more a few months down the road. Not looking for competition winning system or concert hall audio quality. But something I can hear at 75mph and don't have to push the speakers so hard with the volume in order to do so.
So here's what I'm considering, let me know what you think. If there's in your opinion a better system, I'd appreciate hearing it and why you think so.
Looking at the SoundStream HU, either the HDHU.14si or the new V2. This connected to the Hertz SP4.900 amplifier with Hertz 6.5" speakers in upper faring, tour pak and Hertz 6x9 speakers in saddlebag lids. Yes, this is basically the kit you find on Volunteer Audio's website.
Yes, it's quite pricy. I've been told as good a sound can be had from Rockford Fosgate systems for cheaper. But when I check their kits out, I'm not seeing a great deal of savings. Not to mentioned that RF has such a wide range of reviews from crap to great.
actually I find the GTS radios for the later model Harleys, to be pretty stable.
However, if it is going bad, the Soundstream I believe is the best of the bunch to replace it with ,,,,,
