I ordered a 2012 SG for Feb and am having add-ons done for when I pick it up.
My question....I have a lifetime membership to sirus and would like to mount my Sportster 5. I plan on using the radio & ipod most of the time. But on long rides I would like to use the sirus.
Can I power it with out using the cigarette lighter?
Is there a RAM mount or another brand that will hold the radio?
I have not seen anything on the threads, they mostly deal with XM.
Yes you can power it from other sources than the cig lighter. You can run a harness for your device into the fairing. From there you would simply ground one lead, then connect the power lead to the pigtail that is attached to the back of the headlamp. There is a factory harness there with accessory power.
I am a newbie, what are your thoughts on being able to connect the power lead your self. Seems most guys here would do it them self, but I read a lot of guys have problems with leads shorting out.
it's very easy to do and if you take your time and do it right, you'll never have issues with it. I highly suggest that any connections you make to wiring you either solder and put heat shrink on or use connectors you can pick up from any auto parts store and then once your connections are made, use QUALITY brand electrical tape to wrap it up.
