Default Best Amplified Speaker System???

I want to add tunes to my '07 Heritage but there's too many handlebar systems to choose from. I think I want speakers with built in amps and I definitely want to hear them over my Vance & Hines at 70 mph, usually with windsheild. I've seen some 40 and 50 watt speaker kits from Hogtunes, J&M, HD Boom.... all with mixed reviews. Planning to use an iPod / iPhone. Looking for some sound advice on what to buy. Appreciate your help.

I have speakers in the fairing so I can't help you out with handlebar systems. The reason I replied here, is because I've had Hogtunes in the fairing, and they were nothing special. I wouldn't have them again. I think you can do better than Hogtunes. Maybe you could go up to the Harley Davidson Motorcycles section, and post in the Softtail section. More traffic up there. Don't post in the Touring section because most (if not all of) those guys will have fairing speakers. Other than that, I'd say go to a dealer on a nice Saturday morning & see if anybody has a handlebar system that you can listen to. Or a bike night. Might be able to find more of them there.

i do have an ultra now and prior to that a road king. at the end of the road king's life, i put a batwing fairing on it but prior to that I had the J&M amplified handlebar speakers on it and were quite pleased with them for almost 2 years. Easy install and they sounded pretty good. I too agree from experience that you can do better than Hogtunes. I also have a friend that purchased the older "box-style" HD handlebar boom box looking thing and it's horrible. However I did go by a dealer recently and saw a softail sitting out front that had the newer windshield mounted boom audio setup on it and it sounded pretty dang good. the part number on it was 76321-09

Hope that helps more than it confuses you.

I had the J&M self powered sppeakers on my Heritage. I loved them. They were louder than than the stock system on my RGU.

Here ia a link to a review I did after I first installed them..

Here is a link from Dr VTwin showing how loud they are..
