less expensive amps
Has anyone tried the less expensive amps on their bikes? It seems strange to me that the "bike" amps are so much more expensive... You can buy a good car amp for a lot less than the major bike amps

I have tried several amps in my electra glide and have found that unless you want to use up saddlebag space, you have to spend the money for a good amp. There are two that I have used that work well. Rockford Fosgate makes an amp that will fit in the fairing and is what I am using now. I don't remember the numbers, but Paul Yaffe's bagger nation sells it and you can find it on ebay. Four channel, adjustable gain, and fairly simple to install. The other amp is the Alpine ptk 445(i think), 4 channel and (if you have an alpine deck) plug and play. It does not have any adjustments you can make, it is just a straight amp and will fit under the fairing on top of the existing head unit. If you dont have an alpine unit it still will work, but you will have to cut the plugs off of the wire bundles and it will void the warrenty, that amp costs about $150.00 depending on where you get it. For the money, the rockford fosgate unit is the best for the money, fits under the fairing, many features and packs a serious punch. It is what I have and I think it is great.
