I purchased a Harley Boom Audio Handle Bar Kit (p/n 76262-08) and the install is easy except for the wiring and no diagram is provided. Just confusing text! It looks like it needs a Hot, Switched Hot and Ground to connect it, I am replacing a HOG Tunes MA-2 system and this is how that was wired. But, Harley wants you to cut into the main harness; which is just not healthy. The wires to connect are RED, ORANGE and BLACK. Does anyone have any knowledge of this?
Thanks
Red goes to battery +
orange is switched +
black is ground
This setup was draining batteries so HD added a relay & different wiring using the harness, relay & a 12V adapter wire. I'll try to find the it as it has been posted here.
..
The H-D instructions for the link above are for the Windshield mount version. Here is the Handlebar speaker installation: http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J05522.pdf
(I found this by accident by just changing the pdf number!) in case someone else needs it.
These are different than what came with the unit.
Really useful site, just wish there were a search on it.

How/why does this setup drain your battery? Unless the ignition or accessory switch is turned on, the orange and white wire should be off. If the orange and white wire is off... shouldnt the speakers be off?
I have an older version of the windshield mounted system and there is no mention of a relay or needing a relay.

apparently HD had some issues with power feeding back from the main power wire (battery) back through the remote turn on wire (orange/white) into the electrical system so they incorporated the relay to make sure no power got to the amp when the switch was turned off.
