MM6501 - outboard crossover 6-3/4" 2.7 ohm componenet speaker
MM651 - no crossover 6-3/4" 2.7 ohm coaxial speaker
MM651UM - same as above but marine grade with silver grills
there is only one way to make these 4 ohm (or higher) and that is to wire the speakers in series which technically speaking brings your impedance load up to 5.4 ohms.
the owner's manual says nothing about 4ohm, but lists the specs for all 3 speakers at 2.7 ohms.
Now this has changed things and maybe for the better. Got to looking and the MM651 box today and right on the side of it it say; COMPATIBLE WITH 4ohm OUTPUTS. So now the PBR300X4 may come into play. I can use the front channels for the upper fairing speakers and when I run the lower fairings I can use the rear channels. Question is, will this work or will it hurt the amp in the long run just running 2 channels?
Found this:
Note: Polk Audio specifies the nominal impedance of these speakers to be 2.7 ohms. The product box states the impedance to be 4 ohms and the speaker magnet shows 2 ohms, this has been confirmed by Polk Audio to be an incorrect specification. The product manual is correct in stating the nominal impedance of the MM series of speakers to be 2.7 ohms.
Scott Ezelle makes a very nice bracket. It was recommended to me by other forum members and I purchased one. About $60 but worth it. Search Scott Ezelle.
