I spoke with Bill today (before work interrupted), and the 7.1s can be separated for components but not as easily as the other HAT 7.1. BT has ordered their version soldered but still able to separate. HAT's are plugs for comparison.

Also asked him about the power rating and hope to clarify as it seems odd for HAT speakers.

hmm.. kinda curious why you would want to take a perfectly good speaker and unsolder the tweeter..

Now that's a great idea!! How much modification to the tweeter pod did you have? Any photos?

Good question. I'm hoping to chat with Bill more and see what he suggests. I've usually found that components will help bring out the highlights in music... Especially in a car where your legs usually block a typical coax.

Being on a bike i'm unsure if it's necessary. I like the idea of the tweets in the hog pods, but would defer to experience.

I'll definitely let you know what he says.

I spoke to Bill in length today about this among other things and although it is possible it's not recommended nor advised. I'd suggest putting them in your fairing and using the hogpod tweeters in addition to it if you feel the need to do so. I'm putting a pair on a SS amp this weekend and then I'll be able to tell you whether my ears think additional tweeters are necessary.

Without someone in my area having bikes for me to listen to and compare i'm at a bit of a loss how to pick components.

Don't flame, but "plug and play" is enticing on the Rokker XT's. 7.25" vs 6.5" seems like it should be a good idea. I'm a fan of small powerful magnets so the neo magnets doesn't scare me. BUT having upgraded audio in my cars in the past - you get what you pay for typically in speakers and i don't see any specs on the XT's which bugs me.

First of all i want to keep my stock/oem head unit. I want to keep AVC and handlebar controls.

Only 2 speakers. I have an 06 EG Classic w/ no lower speakers, and none at the tourpack. No plans to add those.

So looking for a good set of upgrade speakers 6.5 or bigger that will fit. Want warm mid range with good bass response. Thinking components specifically to separate the tweets up high (either on inner fairing flat spot, or replace hogtunes tweets in hogtunes tweeter pod).

Speakers i'm looking at:
Polk MM6501 components (like they are marine)
Focal 165 components (seems a lot of different version - unsure which yet)
7.25 J&M XT's

Amps:
RF PBR300X2
SS PN2.350D
JL XD200/2
J&M 180w or 2502 2ch amp

Thinking a Class D amp is the way to go (less heat). Would prefer not to splice/cut into harness to wire this. Plug and play enticing for that reason.

Appreciate any suggestions on the above, or any suggestions on what i missed considering!

I'm not doing a competition. I will never pull up along side you and see if yours is louder than mine... just want clean sound i can hear while cruising - good mids and lows. Rock and super random other genres. no plans to add more speakers, or change out HU (though i know it would help). Like the factory look, but want better sound.

Appreciate all the info so far in other threads and any help here!
