Just bought a 2000 FLHTPI a couple weeks ago and I want to upgrade the crappy stereo and speakers that the previous owner installed. I have a new inner fairing already sitting in the workshop that the previous owner purchased and passed on. I am new to the bagger scene having graduated from an older dyna low. I love my radio but the distortion at higher volumes for highway trips is pretty horrid. The other thing that I am running into problems with is that this is a police model so the wiring is not there for most of the radio. The previous owner did hack into the harness to install a cheap pioneer head unit and some cheap speakers. I have looked and looked for the 2000 model civilian harness to no avail. I would love to have the handlebar controls for the radio as it is not real safe to be messing with it riding 80 down the interstate. I am looking to change the police controls out for standard ones. I am looking for recommendations on head units, speakers and probably a decent amp as well as the best way to get this accomplished with the above mentioned limitations.
End wall o' text and thanks in advance for any advice!

before you start on your quest for audio equipment, you should give Bill a call at Biketronics to talk about your handlebar controls.
Thanks for the quick reply. I will give him a call on that.
Just as a side note, I want to say I read somewhere that someone makes a kit that allows some aftermarket Sony HU to work with the stock controls. Problem is still that I currently do not have wiring for them unless I can find or fab the civilian harness.

yes sir that would be biketronics (and hawg-wired too).. that's why I asked you to contact Bill. I think they may have what you're looking for in controls and kit all in one.
