Default New system install questions on my 2013 FLTRX

I've been scouring the forums, gathering information and also looking at friends' bikes (including one who owns a bike customization shop specializing in baggers). So far I have the following in my garage waiting for install:

-AudioControl LC6i Line Output Converter
-(2 ea) Soundstream PN4.520D amplifiers
-(2 pr) Polk Audio MM651 speakers
-(1 pr) Pioneer TS-A6995R 5-way 6"x9" speakers

My plan is to have the local dealership enable the fade function on the stock HK deck. Then run the speaker level outputs into the line converter, sending clean signal via RCA cables to the SS amps. The signal converter has three RCA outputs so I can expand with one more amplifier later if necessary. Additionally the output level is adjustable. I'm hopeful that this extra device will eliminate the distortion I experienced in my last system with the HK deck and Arc Audio amp.

One amp will run the 4 6.5" speakers in the stock locations and vented lowers. I plan to bridge the second amp and send the signal to the pair of 6"x9" speakers mounted up in Cyclesounds speaker lids.

There are a few items I still need to wrap up prior to installing everything.

- I'm looking for some decent quick-disconnects that I can use with good quality speaker wire. I believe in low resistance. For a clean install, I think I'm going to run the speaker wires for the lowers through the crash bar. Then use quick disconnects for the time I may be required to remove the lower fairings. I'm considering the following:

Deans Connectors

Traxxas connectors

http://traxxas.com/products/parts/ac...rrentconnector

SpeakON connectors:

http://www.neutrik.com/en/speakon/

-I need to figure out some good 12 gauge speaker wire, which is what I want to run to the rear speakers. MM651's come with some cheap stuff I'm stuck using...

-I need to figure out my power block

-Most importantly, I need an amp mount solution. The Yaffe dog-ear ones obviously won't work for these amps. I'm considering purchasing a Boom! Road Glide amp kit to use the amplifier mount as a template for a local sheet metal shop to copy. Then have them make two opposite aluminum amp mounts that will fit the SS amps. Unless someone here knows of an alternate solution. I've searched everywhere and have not seen what I am looking for.

Any input, advice, suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

1.) I'm looking into the connector part of it for you.
2.) DO NOT bridge this amp. I'm working with SS on an issue with that...

As for the distortion, you're not going to get rid of it totally until you replace that head unit. Trash in, trash out as they say..

You picked the wrong Pioneer 6 X 9's.....................you don't want 5 way speakers on a 6X9.............go with the Pioneer TS D6902R........MUCH better speaker !!

I used the Deutsch connectors on my saddlebags...........The pic you have listed doesn't look very 'weather' friendly.

What was the recommendation of the guy that owns the bike shop ?? He doesn't have any solutions ??

Bummer. The only reason I bought 2 SS amps was because of the 260 watts/channel for the 6x9's. Otherwise I would have gotten one RF PBR300x2 and one SS.

I guess my other option, as far as a deck is concerned, is to get an Alpine CDA-9886 and another Hawg Wired kit. Although I'm bummed. I just sold my old one that had two O-ring seals. The new one appears to come with one O-ring seal. I wanted to keep the bike relatively rain proof...

Thanks for your efforts.

*That* was the part number... I couldn't remember, so I bought the 5-ways. Easy enough to get rid of. I'll order the 2-ways.

As far as Deutch connectors are concerned, I like them. For low-amperage applications. I look at electricity like water. It flows better with a bigger hose. To me a Deutsch connector is not ideal. It may work, but I want something with less resistance. Maybe I'll use those for the fronts, as the MM651's come with pinner wire anyway.

Oh, and the bike shop guy? He's kind of a hack and I watch what he does and learn what *not* to do. He has a solution alright. Some universal car audio adapter kit thing he modifies for install in the bike. Complete junk in my opinion. There's another bike shop that does systems across the bay. He uses a trick connector that has power wires in the center, and signal/speaker wires around the perimeter. The ideal application if you're putting a 4-channel in your bags. Huge connector, like 1.5" across. It threads on, very secure. Nice, but overkill for me.

I personally have bridged two of these amps and walked another forum member through doing the same. All 3 installations resulted in the same manner.

Either a smoked speaker (literally) or blown speakers within a couple hours of use. This is one thing I'm working with Soundstream on as I personally do not feel the wiring diagrams in the manuals or what is stamped on the amp itself are correct. I finally got hold of someone other than technical support at SS and Vincent (Technical Product Manager for Picaso Nano series amps) SS is looking into this for me with his engineering staff. Hope to have an answer back soon. And I feel your pain.. I have 2 sitting here I was going to bridge in 2 different configurations. In 2 channel (front or rear) and in 4 channel mode this amp rocks.. Not bridged though, it simply smokes! I did some testing with Bill at Biketronics yesterday to comfirm my results with a scope and voltages and I'm seeing some weirdness going on in bridged mode. Perfectly normal otherwise and based on output voltages in normal operation, this amp puts out exactly what SS says it does, 130x4
