I did the pbr300x2 amp install on my 2012 street glide. mounted the amp on top of HU with Velcro(thanks nutz). thinking of adding an xm module down the road. where are they be mounted? plus is Harley's module the best to use with stock hk deck?
Forum member Scott Ezzell makes a great bracket to relocate modules under stock HU, or you could use heavy duty velcro. The Harley XM module is the only one available for the stock HU.
you can use scott's bracket or simply use the same velcro and an added zip tie for security and stick it right under the stock head unit.
The HD model is the only one that will give you direct control of the device through the stock radio.
Just FYI, a lot of folks are complaining about having the stock head unit at a certain volume on the radio or cd setting then switching to the xm setting and volume being quite a bit less..
Ill do the Velcro zip tie. Bracket does look nice, should have gotten it before the amp install. Thanks guys.
The way Scott's bracket is designed, it will slip right in. I think you have to unplug one harness, of coarse you would have to detach your amp from the velcro on HU with a screwdriver or an air-chisel LOL. I like it because it allows air to flow around amp and HU and helps dissipate heat from the amp, plus it makes for a great looking install.

How the hell does that thing fit under the hood of a batwing? Mine seemed awful tight especially since I used the humongous non-ultra overlay harness?

It straddles the stock HU perfectly and was designed for the RF but will work with others. The bracket mounts just like the modules would normally be installed with space under HU to relocate the modules. I used the overlay harness as well with no issues other than a few extra zip-ties, it works great. I believe Scott also makes one for amp only if you don't have modules.
