Every install i see guys use a bracket to install amp does this reduce direct heat to radio or is it just for solid install my current amp sits on top of radio with one strap pretty secure any help with this appreciated headed toward this amp this week thanks.
I used Scott Ezzell's amp bracket because I had modules to relocate under HU and just believe it's a good idea. I believe he makes a bracket for amp only installs as well, just a top plate mounted the same way. I personally never liked the idea of mounting directly on top of the HU. That said, is it completely necessary, no. The bracket allows air to flow around amp and HU, it also helps dissipate heat from amp.

I agree but also agree that mounting the amp on top of the head unit if you have no relocation modules (XM/iPOD/CB) is also a good idea. There is another member in the audio forums that is making a simple aluminum bracket for amp mounting. Peruse through the forum and you'll find it.

Scott does not make an amp only bracket but you could cut his and use only the upper half.
Or I could bend you an aluminum one like Nutz was talking about
yes he has 2 brackets. 1 for relocation of modules and then another for just an amp shelf.
Primetime, I thought it was you that was looking at possibly making those amp mounts out of aluminum or were you waiting on me for measurements for the SS amps.. what you've got now will be perfect for the PBR and SS 2.350D. I will go dig out a 4.520D and give you measurements for that if so...
I would like to make more aluminum amp mounts but I just don't want to buy sheet of aluminum and only make a couple mounts! I would like to line up 5+ to make it worth it! I never did hear any measurements for 4.520D!
