appears to be anything in the range of the 5000 and 6000 batch with 99% of the reports being in the 5000 series batch.
I have the 3000 range (had them installed and driving the **** out of them for over 2 years without issue).
I verified others who have the 4000 range are also good as well.

I bought from amazon so hopefully I can get a refund. Thanks again for all of your help.

will also say this.. some that are getting these swapped out by the vendors when they fail are actually making a conscious effort to send from a different batch number.

it's not just fairing speakers.. I think I've narrowed it down the the 5000 batch.. The 3000 and 4000 batches seems to be fine. I've had the 3000 batch speakers for over 2 years and nary an issue.

Polk Audio said they are not aware of any issues with these speakers.

of course they did.. replacing some 2000 sets sold would be quite costly at $125 a pop. $250 large...
