Default Zumo 665 Install

Hi everyone.

I own a 2010 CVO Street Glide. I just bought the Zumo 665 with XM Radio. I have the Scala Rider Q3 installed in my fullface helmet and I think the turn by turn and XM radio feed through the bluetooth is a great feature for the longer highway rides. I'd also like to get the turn by turn and XM radio feed through my Street Glide speakers for when I'm not wearing the Scala. I see that Harley sells a "Road Tech Navigation Interface Module" Part 76000024A. I don't know anything about the electrical system of the bike or audio equipment. I have 2 questions: 1) If I install this module will I hear both the XM radio and the NAV turn by turn through the Street Glide speakers? 2) Is there any advantage to using this module vs. just running a wire from the audio out of the Zumo to the aux input on the front of the stereo? Thanks for any help. Great forum.

You can already do all of the above with the just the AUX plug. However; if you want to use your harley radio at all, then you have to switch inputs in the HU to hear the XM/Navigation cues vs listening to your FM, CD, iPod etc. What the NIM does is have the Zumo briefly interrupt and cut off the music playing from the HU to send the navigation cues through the radio and your speakers. When the instructions are through, the NIM automatically switches you back to your last source input wether it be FM, CD, or iPod. This cannot be accomplished without the NIM. If your ok with just listening to the XM when you need your NAV then you can just hook up the AUX wire and the Zumo will interrupt the XM feed to give you nav cues.

Interface module is a waste of money. Just use the AUX plug.

It wasn't useful for me. I don't listen to the radio(FM), and everything I wanted was coming from the GPS(MP3/Voice Commands). I speak from the experience I had on my 09 Ultra Classic, when it would hang up and give me white noise until I would hit the CB button so it would realize there wasn't anything coming through that channel. The people I talked to at my service counter said it was a common complaint. So if you listen to the radio(FM) then it may be useful, also don't have a clue how it would be with the CB.

Thanks MontyCop05 and Sagido - different opinions are appreciated. I guess I do have more questions: Did you mount on the fairing or on the handlebar (any regrets)? I have Hogtunes tweeter bar, will that interfere with fairing mount? I also have the On the Move Techology HDPDPLUS II iPod control interface - will that interfere with the installation of the NIM? Thanks again

Mine is fairing mounted (HD kit). If I had to do it over again I probably wouldn't do the fairing mount. Only cause once you drill the giant hole needed to pass the zumo wiring harness through, it's permeant. The hog pod will not work with the fairing mount. The nim will not interfere with the iPod interface at all.

And sagido I didn't have any problems with my mom whatsoever. As long as I had it, it worked flawlessly.

Glad you had good luck with your interface. I pocketed the $125, and used an AUX cable, and just as happy.

With the tweeter bar I am sure the handlebar mount is going to be the way to go. My recommendation is to go with the 660 because in my experience the XM is poor unless you only ride west.
