Default Amp and speaker ohm help

I'm helping a friend with his audio. 08 Ultra that rarely sees a tour pak so we won't be using those speakers. He doesn't have an amp yet and I would like to get him in to the Soundstream 4.520 same as I have (FM reception doesn't matter). The components he has are this:
Stock HK head unit
Fairing Speakers are J&M 7.25" Model 40-452 (label says 8 ohm)
Lowers have Hogtunes 5.25" Model 914.2 (label says for amps 4-8 ohm)
Can I use the SS 4.520 in this application or does anyone have another suggestion?

You can use the Soundstream amp. Not sure what the wattage capacities are of the J&M speakers, but be careful with the Hogtunes. They aren't designed to handle much and will probably not last long.

My suggestion would be to at least upgrade the lowers speakers if you use the SS amp.

8 ohms is std output for two speakers right/left. So the lowers are probably wired into the upper speakers to achieve 8 ohms a parallel circuit.

Stu
Might of confused the explanation. It's the amplifier your protecting not the speakers. If you have two wires per side R/L connecting to the amp it should measure 8 ohms. If the amp has four speaker connections, then the lower & upper have separate circuits.

I just wasn't sure if on a 4 channel amp you could have a different impedance on the front compared to the rear.

You can, but both sets of speakers must fall in between the recommended ohm range of the amp !!

I guess my question for this setup is, will the SS amp work on the J&M's he has? The speakers are marked 8 ohm but the amp specs are for 2 & 4 ohm.

8 ohm won't hurt the amp. The only thing it will do is cut the output power down considerably.

Thanks Pioneer. Probably not a bad thing in this case.
