Default Mounting Amp in tour pack and....

Still working on the never ending audio upgrade. Just installed BT 6.5 in the lowers. Also received a Soundstream PN2.350.

Current setup
2009 FLHTCU
BT 7.1 fairing
BT 6.5 lowers
Infinity 65.11
Soundstream PN4.520

Running the BTs in parallel. Haven't been able to take it out for a ride due to weather. Just by listening to it in the garage, the 7.1's have lost that punch. I know it went from 100 watts per channel to 65 watts.

Looking at running the BT's with the PN4.520 (each speaker on its own channel) and the infinitys with the PN2.350. That's where I began to think about running it from the tour pack. Bought a HT mounting plate but just too many wires to mess with in the fairing. If I ever get another set of 6.5's and 6x9's for the rear, the amp will already be set up. That was my thought process. Does this sound right? Make sense? Looking for comments and opinions.

Those who have mounted amps in the tour pack, how did you route the wires? Did you have to drill a hole? If so, where did you drill?

Also, when I first installed the PN4.520, the only low level converters that I could find locally were PACs with the gain control. So I have gain controls on the amp and the low level converters. I have since picked up some straight speaker wire to RCA converters. Should I switch to the straight converters?

If all else fails, may need to go to the 4180 some day.

Thank you in advance.

GoatHD: check out the PowerAcoustik Razor RZ4.2000D amp...it's essentially the same size physically as the SS, but ups the power to 250W per channel into a 2ohm load. I haven't got a lot of seat time, but I can say that it's pushing my speakers with more power (I have the same front setup as you're running).

$109 is more palatable then $633; if nothing else, you'll have your second amp for the TP. Check out this thread: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/audio...4-ch-amps.html; I had the same questions you did!!

If it were me I'd run the 520.D in the tourpack for the infinity's and whatever 6 x 9's you are going to purchase. The infinity's will sound insane with 130 watts feeding them. I would also purchase the infinity 6 x 9's to keep it apples to apples in the rear.

Then I would do as Mike suggested and buy the power acoustik for the fairing and run the 7.1's and the 6.5's off the PA. 160 watts at 4 ohms will wake those 7.1's and the 6.5's up. But that's just me.

Thanks all. Just finished hooking up the SS 350 in the tour pack. Haven't buttoned it up yet but seems to be better. Haven't checked the volts yet. Definitely feels like the bass is missing. Craving 6x9's. Lids and speakers may take a while (maybe). PowerAcoustik Razor - mo' money, mo' money, mo' money. I'll have to read up on this one.

Not that $109.95 is something you could scrounge out of the couch, but here's the PA RZ4-2000D from SonicElectronix. So far (granted, it's only been about a week for me), so good- and I continue to keep FM signal. The real cash outlay will be for speaker lids (and whichever 6X9 speaker you like) as well as the paint-match.

Does that pa amp run hot? Any complaints so far?

06 Glide: To answer your questions, so far I've not noticed any heat issue with the PA amp, and I never had heat issues with the SS. It's early (only been installed for a week), but I'm quite pleased with the bump in power to all my speakers I'm getting with the PA over the SS. Now if my handlebar controls would stop acting wonky...volume control works when it wants to, and I'm getting spontaneous source changes. I will be removing the PowerVision from the handlebars in a little bit, so I hope it's just RF interference from the PowerVision's cable. I also have to try dielectric grease on the BT connections to see if that fixes things. None of the handlebar control flakiness should be attributed to the PA amp though.

Also, FOR ME (and it seems I had good luck compared to a lot of guys), I haven't noticed much problem with FM signal. It's hard telling, since even in my truck or house I have trouble picking up a couple stations that I want to listen to, but even with lower powered FM stations, the Sony picked them up. I had some static, but never "lost" FM. There are a number of others running the SS amp who apparently completely lost FM capability on their bikes. So far, the PA is not causing any real FM issues for me either- but I have to caveat all that with the fact that I RARELY listen to FM. If I'm not running my iPhone/USB stick, I'm listening to XM.
