Can't help you with the bag lids but... I followed a few builds over in the Softail section (for my Deluxe) and really like this clean set-up built by scootluver where he used headlight buckets to mount 6.5" Focals and hid the RF PBR300x2 in the tool box. He put a volume controller under the tank. Real sano IMHO. HTH!
I guess what I am really asking is, " are speaker lids/speakers/amp " enough to hear at highway speeds?

From what I've heard, no. You can't hear them after around 55. I recently started using a 3/4 helmet and installed speakers using the SENA 10 system. The speakers have no bass though.
