I used the Pioneer TS also. No modification was needed and they do indeed rock. The passenger really gets the most out of the lid speakers but if I lean back just a scrunch they come thru loud and clear. Between the BT 7.1's in the front and the SS nano, along with the speaker lids I have to admit that I'm probably done with tune mods.
Picked up my lids last night and they sure do look/feel like quality pieces. Off to the painter this morning, although the black primer looks kinda close to my denim black . I'll be ordering my speakers this morning. Narrowed down to:
1.) RF T1693 Looks to be the most durable of the bunch, but also the bulkiest.
2.) Kicker 11KS693 Also looks durable and nice specs
3.) Pioneer TS-D6902r's Seems to be the crowd favorite.
They'll be teamed up parallel with my PBR300x2/Focal VB 6.5's up front. I will wire them left/right. I'm thinking I'm looking at durability factor more than sound as I do go on trips with the bike. 65+ mph sound fidelity is kind of a moot point as all speakers will play loud/clear. Until I place the order, at this point I'm leaning towards the Kickers. Decisions, decisions ........

** Decision made. Kicker 11KS693's on the way **
You gonna love those Brother!! Make sure you let everyone know how they sound. . . First words out of your mouth is gonna be Holy ShT!! LOL!!
You having them try to match to the denim black? How close is the flat black to it?
The black primer on the lids is actually a bit duller than denim black. My buddy says he can get really close without buying/exactly matching the denim black..
