Did a bit of research today and this seems to be caused by the HD Navigation Interface Module (NIM). This happens when the song or portion of the song I'm playing on the GPS's MP3 player closely resembles the trigger signal (turn prompt signal from the GPS) that the NIM is looking for. This happens because some songs will closely resemble the activation signal that the GPS would normally send to the NIM when a turn prompt was present. Once activated it stays activated unless you turn the radio off then back on. It will stay activated because the NIM does not receive the de-activation signal that would normally be sent from the GPS when the turn prompt had ended.
It seems as though HD issued a fix with a new part number. Kit 76000024A contains the updated NIM module (83537-11A).
I have the older NIM module. Now to try and get the upgraded (i.e. working) part even though my unit is out of warranty.
The other interesting thing that I read is that the NIM audio interruption is a mono source, and uses the bluetooth phone channel of the KH Radio. That probably explains why I saw the "NAV/Phone" display when I tried to adjust the volume.

Sometimes when I play MP3 files on the GPS through the aux connection, the volume will all of a sudden decrease. If I than go to adjust the volume with the volume button on the handlebar, I've noticed that the radio displays something like (sorry, don't remember the exact message) NAV/Phone volume, instead of the usual "volume" message on the display. Any idea why when a source is playing through the AUX the radio thinks the navigation or phone module is installed? I do have the NIM module installed for the GPS.
