I was at a local shop and they had a carb setting in the box and it looks really clean, like almost new, it was off a twin cam 88 softail that all i know. I have a 99 dyna twin cam 88. I was wondering if this carb would work on my bike it all looks the same and i was planning on rejetting and putting in new needle, drilling the slide and cutting a loops off the spring. The only thing I noticed that i am not sure about is that it has a line coming off (i think the top back of the carb) it is covered in what looks like a little plastic cover maybe kinda looks like a tiny little corrugated black pipe) i know that descriptions isn't much but i can't figure out what it is. Do some of the later models have an electric choke?
well after wasting hours or research i think i came up with the answer. it is a vacum line i think and since i have a pingel petcock i don't need it, some bikes might though that have a voes my bike has a MAP. I think this is right, when somebody who knows for sure see's this please chime in and let me know for sure?
Still not sure if there are any real differences between the diff models and carbs? ie will this softail carb work okay on my dyna both are TC88?
I don't think that's off a TC88. Those wires look like they're for a VOES. TC88s didn't have that. They use a MAP sensor in the intake. It may have come from a Softail but a lot of people forget that in 1999 Softails still had the Evo motor.
That's just a guess and I dunno if it'll work. There are people here way smarter than me that can tell you.
No wires on that carb, just red photoshop highlights. It'll work just fine when you block the vacuum port. Yes, they're pretty much all the same. Different hose lengths sometimes.
They are pretty much all the same Over the years I ended up with a bunch of carbs, When I needed one whether for big twin or sportster , I just rejet as need maybe change the cable brackets as they aren't all the same. Seem to always work for me.
it would be nice to have an extra carb so I can get the tuning right and still ride in the mean time when I get it right I can just sell the old one. Gonna see what he will take for it it looks really clean even still has cap over the mixture/idle screw in bottom
