Another reason I suggest the Duo-glide route is I have a 64 frame with a 1945 back half on it back when you couldn't buy a hard tail conversion. Note the smooth front legs with the gentle curve yet its a hard tail.

Also look at the weld at the base of the seat post, I see an opening under the weld. Crack or joined there when they converted it?

Look on the right side of the upper engine mount for a 2 digit stamp, its the easiest part to inspect.

The front engine mount underside will have a forging number too. Check that and post a pic.

Also look here. It''s a nice place to join the hard tail to the duo-glide front half. See how it's bulged but the rest of the welds aft that are not touched. The duo-glide tubes are a larger diameter than the hard tails.
