Trying to do a little research for a new bike. I really like the classic bikes and I'm trying to decide whether to buy an original Panhead that might or might not need to be restored. Or by a "new" replica/reproduction bike that has a new motor and running gear. I have found a bunch of different "kits" to build a bike from and the one that has caught my eye is from Zoom Cycles in CT. My question is, has anyone built one of there bikes? If so, how was the kit? Does anyone know of any other kits or repros/replicas that are worth building.
Zoom is a dealer for V-Twin Mfg, aka Taiwan Tedd. Some of their stuff is good, and some of it is of rather poor quality. A couple years ago the head wacko on OCC used parts from V-Twin to build an old style Pan chop for the kid on the show. Bike looked great, but that doesn't say anything about long-term quality.
Accurate Engineering and Flathead Power make high quality Pan & Knuck motors. They're pricey, but the quality is probably better than a new HD Twinkie motor. Check with Paughco for a good repop frame, and other parts.
