better braking for Panhead
I thought of something on the weekend when standing looking at my 58 Panhead and how bad the front brake is. (Yes I know it was always bad even when new) Well yes you can change your entire front fork assembly and put a disk on it but that would ruin the look of the classic. So it got me thinking that 1 drum is bad but perhaps 2 would be ok. Im not sure if this is correct for a 58 but the drum sits on the right side of the wheel if you’re sitting on the bike and there is a locating bolt in the fork. But I know that some bikes have it on the left. Not sure if the forks are independent or not but what would happen if you changed one fork to have the drum locating hole on the left also. Then you could fit another drum to the left side of the bike. Then you have 2 drums on the bike. I know then you have to make to operate on one lever but that is a simple fix with a centre bracket to pull both cables from one lever.
Has anyone done this before? Im sure if ive thought of it 1000 others would have also.
That could be one option but another might be leave one drum on the bike and somehow convert it to hydraulic set up. There might be some work but then you might have more stoping pressure on the drum increasing its efficiency.
Well that said has anyone ever done such things and did it improve the braking of the front brake?
