I have developed a severe vibration and a loud knock above 2500 RPM. Everything I checked is tight, motor mounts and such. Any ideas what could be wrong? Also severe vibration while accelerating but no knock.
Thanks Quigley
More Info would help: model/yr?, mods?, new problem or old?, 2500rpm w/load or stopped, clutch engaged? Knock, clang or ping noise? Anything else you can add. Vibs may be one thing, knock another. Would like to help if I can.
96in stroker kit. While accelerating there seems to be a severe vibration, enough to vibrate your feet of the pegs. Cant hear a knock at that point. Once you get up to 2500 rpm 70 plus mph. and back off the throttle to cruise you can hear a knock. Its not a ping, more like a metal to metal sound. If I back off the throttle to less than 2500 rpm the knock goes away as well as the vibration.

Info on the stroker kit: who installed? The vibs most likely are from an out of balance crank. 96"ers are not known for smoothness but this sounds excessive. I have experienced a knock like you describe when my rear piston developed a piston slap due to wear. Doesn't sound like a rod or bearing, those would be continuous. Maybe someone more experienced can pinpoint the problem for you. Wish I could be more help but I'm just guessing at this point.
I appreciate your help. I think I will ride it till winter and then tear it down to see if I cant find the problem. Been reading info on stroker kits and it seems they are great if you want to go fast and have lots of money since they just they just dont last.
[sm=icon_cheers.gif]No same air cleaner. Friend suggested the other day that I should add Seafoam to the oil and gas.I figured it couldn hurt so I added 3 ounces to the oil and 2 ounces to the gas. Guess what. The knock is gone so is the vibration.I dont understand it but I;m happy as hell. Maybe I had a stuck piston ring all this time? Couldnt happen at a better time, leaving for Sturgis on Friday.
