Default 2000 BDM Husky slips out of 1st gear.

Hi All,

My Big Dog has slipped out of first gear three times now (5 speed) in the last month, I'm going to drain the trans to check for debris but was starting to think my options? Any one have any good or bad about the ultima and Rev tech 6 speed transmissions? I know the Baker would be best but I'm on a budget as most of us are. Need to figure this out soon since I'm riding to Sturgis this year and would like to put some miles on the trans prior to the trip.

2000 Big Dog
13k miles S&S 107 inch. 5 speed.

You are gonna get a bunch of opinions on this one. I have a RT 5 speed but only 700 miles on it. I've heard good and bad on both. There is also a Roadmax. I saw a recent comparison between Baker and Roadmax and of course Baker much better. What did the bike originally come with ? Baker?

Think its a baker, was thinking maybe a shifter pawl adjustment? But not sure if this is the problem since it shifts fine in all gears, up shift and down. Wondering if this problem of popping out of one first is an indication of adjustment problem??

Default Shifter Pawl adjustment

Ok I removed the shifter linkage and moved the shifter arm at tranny forward and aft (in 3rd gear) and noticed the forward movement is about 1/8 inch and aft is about 1/16th. would this be consistant with me having trouble downshifting? from neutural to first or sometimes when downshifting I have sometimes get it between gears, not very ofter and in fact has always happened with this bike and my last softail that I had for 14 years so I did not think anything of it??

Any one know which direction I need to adjust it? clockwise or counter clockwise? Of course I will probable try both and see which way take it in the direction I need.

Ok, used a "C" shaped 11/16"wrench to loosen the jam nut and turned the adjuster 1/8th out and now the shifter lever is the same forward and aft, first ride was good!!
