bobber project frame choice
hey guys i started a bobber project and im accumulating parts and i am having some frame issues. i am going rigid with a stock rake and stretch. and this is my dilemma. i have a bike i am using for parts it is a 1989 flh. i can buy a rigid frame and use that or i can send out the frame i got and get it converted. if i convert the frame i have hd numbers and i can use my tranny and primary. if i buy a frame i need a tranny and primary. both work out to be close in price i believe in good and cheap dont belong in the same sentence. im just looking to get some more opinions
keeping the original numbers is always easier..a flht has a really odd frame, long neck to accommodate the goofy front end and fairing,if you change that you will probably lose the vin numbers..but if the fabricator is any good they can work around it or cut that section out and weld it into another frame..just dont make it look like it was patched in..i saw a bike one time, complete custom hardtail chopper, wide glide front forks..stock flht neck section, the forks were a foot ahead of the gas tank
yeah i hear that luckily i have an flh not the t so the neck is normal. i seen some of the guys work before he makes great stuff. and he says the frame will look like it came from harley that way. i think its the way im gonna go
1986 was the last year for the flh/fx frame(looks like 1958 and up)after that it was fxr, softail, and flht.any way,if that is what you have use it.you can buy weld on hardtails for that frame or have it fabricated.will be a nice bike..
