Old School Chopper Style Build
I registered on here earlier, talking about the bike I am going to be building. Well I just picked up most of the parts today, it was dark so I haven't gotten any pictures yet but once I get a chance I will be posting up pictures.
Today I picked up everything but the Frame and Rear Tire. The engine is a late 60's/very early 70's Harley Ironhead 1000cc. The motor is 99% put together, just have to put the side plate back on for the transmission. Along with that I have a Sportster XlCH front end that will hook up to a very early 70's Paughco Rigid frame, cut and raked on the front (not sure of the total change but built in the 70's to be a low-riding chopper)
Original 70's 2 up seat, various parts. Skipped taking the stock sportster oil bag in favor of a chrome octagon style bag. Trying to decide if I am going to put drag bars on it or 8-12" Apes, that will be decided once I get the front end mocked on so I can get an idea of what the feel will be.
The frame is currently a blue color, which is in horrible shape. The rear fender is blue, front fender is black and the tank is not painted so everything is going to get scrubbed down and resprayed black, probably matte black for everything including the frame.
As for the engine, I will be taking a can of Mothers polish to it to brighten everything up (my uncles recommendation for this engine) as it needs to be polished up from oxidation. After I get it polished I will decide if I am going to black out the motor or not. Probably wont as the rest of the bike will be blacked out and the chrome of the motor will give it some shine.
I am going to be documenting this rebuild as I go, I will be starting to polish the motor next weekend, when I start that I will pull everything out and snap some pictures to update the thread. Wish me luck!
Gotta wait until next payday to get the ball rolling on painting and polishing everything on the bike. Gonna head down to the shed in a little bit to take some snap shots of what I got so far.
All things aside hopefully I will be able to pick up the frame and rear tire at the end of the month/first monday of December early enough so that I can take pictures of everything together. We are then gonna move everything to a storage unit when we are ready to start the painting process so that should be fun.
Until then folks!
On tap for this weekend is to get a stand to get stuff up off the ground while I work on it and the gasket for the side cover for the motor so I can get that fully assembled and ready to go. Hopefully in the next few weekends I will get all the stuff I need to paint the frame and tins, later I will be getting the frame powdercoated once I can afford it in about a year but for now I am just gonna go ahead and repaint it to get things going.
Time to hunt down a copy of the manual for the motor in this thing. Found out more on the bike, the frame is a 1971 Paughco Rigid frame, motor is from a 1972 Sportster back when they first introduced the 1000cc Ironhead. I have a day off that I can actually get something done so tomorrow I will be snapping photos and bringing them here.
Sorry for those who may have been following this thread but it's gonna be a slow process until I get the cash for the paint which should be a few weeks so stay tuned!
Would be great to watch this thread progress if you posted pics along the way.

I promise I will get some uploaded by tomorrow night though, unfortunately they won't be much as the bike is completely torn down but more will be coming as I am able to work more on it.

The bike sits extremely low slung with the stock front end on it. Literally the bike is maybe 2 inches off the ground at the bottom of the frame.... Really hoping that isn't going to be an issue but it seemed to be the same with the other front end on it so not too stressed out.
Everything going onto this bike is the same parts that were put onto it in the early 70's, the seat show there is the original and everything is ready to go. As you can see the frame and the rear fender are blue at the moment that shall change.
I didn't get a chance to dig out the tank, front fender or the rest of the parts today cause my back is still hurting like hell and I damn near killed myself sliding down the ramp into our shed so that will have to come when things are ready to be polished and painted in a few weeks.
Sorry the thread is progressing sort of slow, I decided I am going to nick name the bike Two-Faced Lowrider due to the paint job I have in my mind for this bike.
I will be doing semi-gloss black on everything. Then masking off half of all the bike and spraying the second half with a dark red. The left side of the tins and tank will be dark red while the right side of the frame will be dark red, just to throw a little contrast and uniqueness to the bike itself.
Hopefully things go well over the next week and this coming saturday I will be able to get back into the shed, get the engine up and start polishing it out, gotta find a gear case cover gasket for the motor and get it put back together fully before I can do that.
