I have an 06 Fatboy (Dragonfly Green/Vivid Black), it is a great looking bike. Unfortunately, about two weeks ago, a rock kicked up on I95 and I took hit on the front fender [:@]. Small chip about 2mm, but I was @#$% mad!!! I ordered a "touch-up kit" for this bike, but it came with a "Dragon Fly Green Pearl Top Coat and Vivid Black". Does anyone know what the base coat would be? The top coat is almost clear and does not match the bike, so I opted not to put it on.If I can't match it, I may be able to cover it with a "front fender tip", but not sure how that will look on a my fatboy. Does anyone have any pics of fatboy with a front fender tip?
Thanks for the response. When I picked-up the paint at the dealer, I mentioned to him that this doesn't look "green" at at all. The touch-up paint is actually clear with metallic flakes and reads "Dragonfly Green Topcoat". It is more similar to "clear coat". I thought maybe HD would have a two part process (base coat) "emerald green" with this top being applied after. I am not usually this **** about things. But if bother's the hell out of me. As far as shaking it, yeah it shook it for "two minutes" like the intructions said. Used a tooth pick to apply, but looked like crap, at least in my opion.
If I were you, I'd take it to the Harley Dealer and have them fix it.....or.....have them refer you to someone who does that sort of thing. My Hubby hasa Dragonfly Green/ Vivid Black 06 Softtail Classic, and somehow when he was towing the bikes inside our trailer , my BRAND NEW, NEVER RIDDEN 07 Dyna Low Rider fell onto his bike......and for170 miles, rubbed and scratched his gas tankall to hel- and put a dent in it. His brake leverput hugedeep scratchesin my windshield. Needless to say he's totally dinked off about it ( totally his fault) and will get the tank repaired and repainted by the dealer. I have to live with how my windshield looks he said. At least none of thespecial order paint ( Dark Green and Light Green Envy) on my Dyna was damaged. Anyway, you spend a ton of bucks on your dream machine, so I suggest you take your paint to the professionals and let them work their magic.
What you have is the midcoat, and you need the base. It's possible the base is vivid black, but, from what I recall of seeing that color combo, I doubt it. Find something black (even a piece of paper), put a drop the midcoat on there, see what it looks like.
There are a number of midcoats that appear to be some color when put over different basecoats. Getting the correct basecoat is critical to getting a good match.
